Fusing the Highland Bagpipe with popular modern rock/pop music, the term Bagrock was
first coined by the Red Hot Chili Pipers about 20 years ago. Check their page:

Bon Scott from ACDC was one of the first to rock the bagpipes in a non-traditional setting
with their classic 1975 rock song, It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)
Lead singer, Bon Scott grew up in Kirriemuir, Scotland, where I went to school and eventually moved to Perth, Australia, where he played in the Fremantle Scots Pipe Band. We also performed Long Way to the Top with cover band Soap Opera
Another famous ACDC track featuring the bagpipes is Thunderstruck, arranged by the
famous forward-thinking bagpipe player Gordon Duncan (1964-2005). I recently played this
arrangement with the covers band SATR:
In my other capacity as a band officer with WA Police Pipe Band, I was lucky enough to
perform Mull of Kintyre with Sir Paul McCartney when he came to Perth in 2017:
You might also recognise bagpipes in John Farnham's iconic song, The Voice. We hope to see
the Bagpipes used by many more famous rock stars!
