Fusing the Highland Bagpipe with popular modern rock/pop music, the term Bagrock was

first coined by the Red Hot Chili Pipers about 20 years ago. Check their page:

ACDC Bagpipe Rock

Bon Scott from ACDC was one of the first to rock the bagpipes in a non-traditional setting

with their classic 1975 rock song, It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)

Lead singer, Bon Scott grew up in Kirriemuir, Scotland, where I went to school and eventually moved to Perth, Australia, where he played in the Fremantle Scots Pipe Band. We also performed Long Way to the Top with cover band Soap Opera

Another famous ACDC track featuring the bagpipes is Thunderstruck, arranged by the

famous forward-thinking bagpipe player Gordon Duncan (1964-2005). I recently played this

arrangement with the covers band SATR:

In my other capacity as a band officer with WA Police Pipe Band, I was lucky enough to

perform Mull of Kintyre with Sir Paul McCartney when he came to Perth in 2017:

You might also recognise bagpipes in John Farnham's iconic song, The Voice. We hope to see

the Bagpipes used by many more famous rock stars!
